Work Visa

There are several work visas available for you in New Zealand. The most common type of work visa is the Essential Skills work visa. To be eligible for this work visa, you must have an offer of employment from a New Zealand employer. You must be suitably qualified and experience and meet the health and character requirements. Dependent upon the skill level of the job will determine the duration of the visa.

Visitor

A visitor visa allows you to visit New Zealand on a short term basis to holiday and visit relatives. During your stay you should have enough money to support yourself and everyone included in your application.

Family/Partnership Visa

If you are in a partnership with a New Zealand citizen or resident you may be eligible to apply for a partnership visa. You can also apply for a temporary based work or visitor visa if you can demonstrate that you have been living together in a genuine and stable relationship for 12 months or more.

Unlawful in New Zealand

If you find yourself unlawfully in New Zealand as your visa has expired you may be able to request a visa under Section 61 of the Immigration Act 2009. There may be genuine reasons why people become unlawful and why they have not applied to Immigration New Zealand to regularise their visa status. Don’t delay and be scared of discussing this with us, as we could present a detailed request with your personal circumstances to help you become lawful to stay in New Zealand.

Working holiday

The objective of working holiday schemes is to allow young citizens of approved countries, whose primary intention is to holiday in New Zealand, to undertake employment and study during their stay in accordance with their scheme. You must have sufficient funds to support yourself and meet the health and character requirements. The duration of a working holiday visa is normally 12 months however if you are from Canada or the United Kingdom you may be eligible to stay longer.

Student Visa

Dependent child student visas allows children of certain types of work. Students may apply for a student visa to allow them to go to school whilst their parents are working or studying in New Zealand. If you’re from overseas you can also apply to study full time in New Zealand. You will need to pay for your tuition from an approved education provider.

Skilled Migrant

People who can demonstrate that they have skills to fill employment needs and contribute to economic growth for New Zealand may be eligible to apply for residence in New Zealand under this category. This visa is a two step process in which you submit an expression of interest and if Immigration New Zealand select your submission, the second stage would be an application to be made for approval. Immigration New Zealand will assess your employment, work experience, qualifications, health and character and your ability to speak English.  If you are successful you will be able to live and work in New Zealand.
